How We Move Beyond Petrochemicals
Petrochemicals are the #1 source of toxic air pollution in local communities we are supporting in this campaign. These frontline communities identify petrochemical industry expansion as the top threat to their health and the air quality.
Petrochemicals are also responsible for nearly 10% of global carbon emissions. That’s why Bloomberg Philanthropies launched the Beyond Petrochemicals: People Over Pollution campaign, committing $85 million to halt the rapid expansion of petrochemical and plastic pollution in the U.S.
Drawing on the success of Beyond Coal and Beyond Carbon, our campaign will turbocharge existing efforts led by frontline communities across Louisiana, Texas, and the Ohio River Valley to block 120+ proposed petrochemical projects.
We are reposting this video after adding the above critical context around the campaign’s goal and mission. We’re ready and eager to work with partners such as Rev. Yearwood at Hip Hop Caucus, Sharon Lavigne at Rise St. James, and others on this campaign.
