Bloomberg Philanthropies Names 85 Cultural Organizations in Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh to Participate in $43 Million Arts Innovation and Management Training Program

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that 47 cultural organizations in Washington D.C. and 38 organizations Pittsburgh have been selected to participate in the Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program. The invitation-only program seeks to strengthen the organizational capacity and programming of small and midsize cultural organizations within seven U.S. cities: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Denver, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. Â More than 200 cultural organizations have been selected to participate and will be announced on an individual basis per city throughout the summer and early fall.

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that the University of Bath, The Global Centre for Good Governance in Tobacco Control (GGTC), and International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) have been selected to collectively direct a new global tobacco industry watchdog group: STOP (Stopping Tobacco Organizations and Products). With partners based in the UK, Thailand and France, the global watchdog will publish investigative reports detailing the tobacco industry’s lobbying tactics and marketing strategies, and will provide tools and training materials for low- and middle-income countries to push back against the industry’s influence.

Bloomberg, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Climate Action and co-chair of America’s Pledge, announced the $70 million American Cities Climate Challenge, a major new effort to expedite progress in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while growing local economies during a time of inaction from the federal government. Through a competitive process, Bloomberg Philanthropies will select the 20 mayors demonstrating the strongest leadership and commitment to move America forward on delivering the goals of the Paris Agreement – a 26% reduction in emissions from 2005 levels. Selected cities will participate in a two-year program designed to significantly deepen the impact of their efforts to tackle climate change. The $70 million investment includes funding from a philanthropic partner and additional charitable partners may join the effort in the future.
