New York, NY — Today, Michael R. Bloomberg announced the Bloomberg Global Business Forum will return to New York City on Tuesday, September 24th, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and in partnership with the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the forum will focus on aligning governments and businesses around the risks and opportunities impacting global markets, such as climate change, trade, and digitalization.
“All the big challenges we face require collaboration across the public and private sectors, including the unprecedented global challenge of climate change,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions. “With the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund joining as partners, this year’s Bloomberg Global Business Forum promises to be the most ambitious yet. We’re looking forward to welcoming leaders from around the world to share ideas, seize opportunities, and build new partnerships.”
Michael R. Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions and Founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and Bloomberg L.P., Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, and Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, will address the event alongside a number of other speakers, including Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance and Co-Chair of Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero, David Schwimmer, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group, Jean-Paul Servais, Chairman, IOSCO, Shemara Wikramanayake, CEO, Macquarie, and Bill Winters, CEO of Standard Chartered. Additional speakers will be announced shortly.
The Global Business Forum will provide an opportunity for leaders across public policy, business, technology, and finance to assess and outline progress that must be made by the public and private sectors ahead of upcoming global moments, including the G20 and COP29 in November. The Global Business Forum will also highlight investment action across key sectors and the opportunities and challenges associated with current financial paradigm shifts across the forum’s themes.
“In developing countries, we have an opportunity to improve lives and confront the toughest challenges. But no one can do it alone,” said Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank. “Responding to the world’s intertwined crises demands partnership and strong private sector participation. The Global Business Forum can help inspire the collaboration necessary to make a difference.”
“From addressing debt vulnerabilities to combating climate change and leveraging new digital technologies, the need for cooperation between policymakers and the private sector has never been greater,” said Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF. “The IMF is proud to be a partner in this initiative, encouraging the exchange of ideas and strengthening public-private sector collaboration.”
The event will be held from 3:30-5:00pm ET on Tuesday, September 24th, at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. Media must be credentialed to attend the Global Business Forum and can submit their request here. Please contact pressinfo@bloomberg.org with any questions.

The 2024 Global Business Forum will follow the third Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, co-hosted by the Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies, on the morning of September 24th, also at The Plaza Hotel.
