Bloomberg Associates (BA) is Bloomberg Philanthropies’ pro bono consulting service founded by Michael Bloomberg, the 108th Mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg LP, as a philanthropic venture. We provide services to cities that help governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. BA works across nine (9) different focus areas: Cultural Assets Management, Marketing & Communications, Media and Digital Strategies, Municipal Integrity, Social Services, Sustainability, Transportation, Economic Development and Urban Planning, with teams that have deep subject matter expertise and extensive experience in municipal government.  

Position Description  

We are seeking a highly motivated Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting in conducting in-depth desk research, data analysis, and program development while providing valuable assistance to Bloomberg Associates’ client cities on various cyber- and tech-related engagements.  

This role is fully remote and part-time, working an average of 20 hours per week and will be initially a 6-month contract. They will need to be a self-starter, highly organized, an excellent communicator and comfortable working with limited supervision.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Conduct detailed research on municipal cybersecurity and technology topics, including but not limited to ransomware, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, smart cities, government regulation, and other new technologies  
  • Analyze city technology department budgets and staffing sizes to help identify common patterns  
  • Research and analyze department strategic plans; identify trends and prepare summary reports  
  • Identify and conduct outreach to cybersecurity and technology professionals in the public and private sectors  
  • Support the preparation of client results, including memos, reports, PowerPoint decks, and spreadsheets  
  • Research potential partnership opportunities for BA’s program or its clients  
  • Participate in and support client meetings including programming and leading agendas, scheduling meetings, drafting results, taking notes, recording action items  
  • Draft standard process guides on additional topics relating to cybersecurity and technology  

Desired Qualifications  

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in cybersecurity, civic technology, public policy, or a related field  
  • Understanding of cybersecurity threats, risks, and mitigation strategies  
  • Hands-on experience with technology  
  • Superb attention to detail  
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and concise results tailored to a variety of internal and external audiences  
  • Ability to conduct detailed research and data analysis  
  • Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint; experience in or familiarity with Tableau or PowerBI is preferred but not required  
  • Ability to translate complex information into concise presentations and reports  
  • Passion for working alongside city governments to better serve their constituents

The referenced pay rate is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
