Strengthening Local Arts Organizations
Local arts and cultural institutions bring both critical economic and social impact, serving as anchors for communities. Through unique programs and partnerships, Bloomberg Philanthropies is helping local arts and culture organizations continue innovating and enriching their communities.
Arts Innovation and Management
The Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program seeks to build the organizational capacity and governance of small and mid-sized arts and cultural organizations. Piloted in New York City in 2011, this invitation-only grant program has worked with 740 organizations in 14 cities across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Digital Accelerator
The Digital Accelerator program seeks to strengthen nonprofit cultural organizations through strategic investments in their digital. Recognizing the innovation of many cultural organizations, as well as the need to advance digital strategy to ensure their sustainability, the Digital Accelerator supports the full spectrum of digital infrastructure for cultural non-profits. This includes tools to enhance core operations, such as integrated marketing and fundraising systems, as well as bold projects with the potential to benefit the broader cultural sector. To-date, the program has supported nearly 150 institutions in the US and the UK.
Bloomberg Arts Internship
Internships have a significant impact on a student’s development — putting them in a better position to excel in the classroom and gain the experience they need to have success in their future careers. The Bloomberg Arts Internship program is working to help young people develop the skills and give them the tools they need by providing students in Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. with work experience at select cultural institutions, as well as work-readiness and college-preparation training.
9/11 Memorial and Museum
In 2006, Mike Bloomberg became the chair of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the country’s principal institution to honor the memories of the victims, preserve the history, and explore the complex impact of the 9/11 attacks. During his time as mayor, Mike and his administration spearheaded the planning and development of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Perelman Performing Arts Center
The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) is a unique venue for theater, dance, music, chamber opera, film, and media offering artists new possibilities for theatrical design and innovative work. Opened in September 2023, PAC NYC is the final piece of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site.
The Shed
Since it opened in the spring of 2019, The Shed has rapidly become a fixture of New York’s cultural scene. Designed to commission, produce, and present all types of performing arts, visual arts, and popular culture, it is driven by experimentation and collaboration. Bloomberg Philanthropies gave $75 million toward the capital campaign for the new institution.
