Every student deserves the chance to get a high-quality education, no matter where they live or how much their family makes. Strengthening America’s education system – from K-12, to higher education, to career and technical education – is good for students, communities, and the economy.
Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Education program works to ensure that all students have the skills and opportunities to succeed in the 21st century. By putting students’ needs first and broadening educational opportunities for youth, whether by expanding access to colleges and universities or by strengthening career and technical training, Bloomberg Philanthropies focuses on giving more students a chance to fulfill their potential.

Expanding College Access and Success
Far too many talented, low- and middle-income students do not even apply to — let alone attend and graduate from — the top colleges and universities they are qualified for. Bloomberg Philanthropies aims to expand access to higher education through the American Talent Initiative, which works with schools to help them recruit high-achieving, lower-income students, and the CollegePoint program, which works with students to help them apply to the nation’s top colleges.
Supporting Career and Technical Education
A high school diploma is no longer a ticket to a good job, and there are now an increasing number of middle-skill jobs, which require more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree. To help more students get the qualifications and experience they need for these jobs, Bloomberg Philanthropies supports pilot and early-stage apprenticeship programs and works to build an evidence base of effective programs that can be shared and replicated across the country.

Advancing K-12 Education
Bloomberg Philanthropies’ efforts to advance education are grounded in the belief that broad coalitions can help put students’ interests first, increasing high school graduation rates and ultimately college enrollment. Mike Bloomberg uses his personal funds to support pro-reform candidates who work to enact meaningful policy changes that will ensure accountability and high standards in schools.
Supporting Educational Institutions
Mike Bloomberg is committed to improving education across the U.S., and he has long supported educational institutions that have a special importance to him and make a real impact in their communities. These include Johns Hopkins University, the Museum of Science in Boston, Cornell Tech in New York City, and the country’s four historically Black medical schools.
