Cameroonian-American Basketball Player
Joel Embiid is a Cameroonian-American professional basketball player and one of the NBA’s most influential athletes. As an NBA MVP, two-time scoring champion, and seven-time All-Star, he has become a dominant force on the court while playing a key role in his local community of Philadelphia. Beyond his success in the NBA, Joel’s influence as a global athlete continues to grow, highlighted by his recent Olympic gold medal win with Team USA at the Paris Olympics.
Off the court, Joel has devoted time and resources to bettering his two homes: Cameroon and Philadelphia. He and his family founded The Arthur Embiid & Angels Foundation in honor of his late brother, aiming to protect and improve the lives of Cameroonian youth through education, health, and sports. In Philadelphia, Joel’s “In Memory of Arthur” (IMOA) community initiative has committed $1 million in contributions to various local organizations. His philanthropic efforts, which include supporting Philadelphia’s homeless population, families in financial need, and the city’s frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, earned him the NBA Community Assist Award.
