Maya Gabeira is a Brazilian big wave surfer born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She began surfing at a young age and quickly gained recognition, particularly in extreme wave conditions. Maya is best known for her accomplishments at Nazaré in Portugal, where she has ridden some of the largest waves in history. In 2020, she made headlines for riding a wave estimated at 73.5 feet (22.4 meters), which broke her own world record and is the largest wave ever surfed by a woman.
Throughout her career, Maya has been a strong advocate for women in surfing, aiming to promote gender equality in the sport. She has received numerous awards and has won multiple WSL Big Wave competitions.She is an author and public speaker. In addition to her surfing achievements, she is passionate about ocean conservation and uses her platform to raise awareness about environmental issues.
