Bloomberg at COP
Globally recognized for his work to fight climate change and accelerate the energy transition, UN Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Mike Bloomberg has long been committed to strengthening climate capacity across the United Nations and promoting climate ambition and solutions at the annual Conference of Parties (COPs).
Mike’s commitment to strengthen and support the UN’s climate agenda has included filling the funding gap created when the Trump Administration revoked federal financial support, publishing annual assessments of U.S. non-federal action to reduce emissions consistent with the Paris Agreement, and bringing together influential change makers and leaders from across government, business, finance, technology, media, and the arts to promote sharing ideas on best practices and overcoming barriers to ambitious climate action. Bloomberg Philanthropies also provides funding for various pavilions to ensure exhibition and convening space to showcase non-state climate leadership.

Following dozens of climate actions taken across Bloomberg LP, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and with partners in the leadup to COP28, Mike Bloomberg participated in COP28 in Dubai, U.A.E. where representatives from over 190 countries gathered to discuss progress being made on tackling climate change.
During COP28, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the COP28 Presidency hosted the Local Climate Action Summit in recognition of the critical role local leaders play in reducing emissions, addressing climate risk, and supercharging national efforts to move further and faster on climate progress.Â

In November 2022, Mike Bloomberg participated in COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, after releasing a series of 92 climate actions in 45 days aimed at delivering on UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ call for urgent, collective climate action leading into COP27.
At COP27 and beyond, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Bloomberg LP are taking action to accelerate the clean energy transition, inspire local climate action, protect the ocean, clean the air, and mobilize climate finance.

In November 2021, Mike Bloomberg participated in COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, capping off a 60-day, Bloomberg-wide effort to turbocharge climate progress in support of the UN’s climate agenda. Bloomberg Philanthropies also committed funding to ensure that a whole-of-society approach continues as the United States works to pass and implement landmark climate legislation, and cities, states, businesses, and other organizations can continue to collaborate on climate research, campaigns, and advocacy.
